State Funded Training Opportunities

Need assistance paying for a work related class? The Employment and Training Fund program, administered by the Workforce Development Division of the State of Hawai‘i, provides resources to assist with employers’ training needs. For information, contact a Workforce Development Division office.

Lifetime Learning Credit
The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 provides for Lifetime Learning Credits for qualified tuition and related expenses for eligible individuals seeking to acquire or improve job skills.

The Taxpayer Relief Act states: “The Lifetime Learning Credit for any taxpayer for any taxable year is an amount equal to 20 percent of so much of the qualified tuition and related expenses paid by the taxpayer during the taxable year (for education furnished during any academic period beginning in such taxable year) as does not exceed $10,000 ($5,000 in the case of taxable years beginning before January 1, 2003).”

Military
Active duty military personnel may be eligible for Tuition Assistance, depending on the branch of the military and the courses you select. Check with your Education Office on base for information.

Workforce Investment Act
If you are unemployed, you may be eligible for employment services, education, and training administered through the O‘ahu Workforce Investment Board.
